This is the fifth time the deadline has been extended in order to give people additional time to link their Aadhar and PAN.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Does_everyone_need_to_link_their_Aadhar_and_PAN\"><\/span><b>Does everyone need to link their Aadhar and PAN?\u00a0<\/b><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h4>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As per CBDT, &#8220;Under the provisions of the Income-tax Act, 1961(the \u2018Act\u2019) every person who has been allotted a PAN as of 1st July 2017 and is eligible to obtain an Aadhaar Number, is required to intimate his Aadhaar to the prescribed authority on or before 31st March 2023, on payment of a prescribed fee,&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;Failure to do so shall attract certain repercussions under the Act w.e.f. 1st April 2023.\u201d it added.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Aadhar linking is<strong> not mandatory<\/strong> for the following groups of people:<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">1) Residents of the states of Assam, Jammu and Kashmir, and Meghalaya.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">2) Non-resident Indians (NRIs) as per the Income-tax Act, 1961.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">3) Anyone who was of the age 80 years or more at any time during the previous year.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">4) Individuals who are not a citizen of India.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/kuvera.in\/fixed-deposit\/all\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-22082\" src=\"https:\/\/kuvera.in\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/FD-Banner-01-03-300x76.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"151\" srcset=\"https:\/\/kuvera.in\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/FD-Banner-01-03-300x76.jpg 300w, https:\/\/kuvera.in\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/FD-Banner-01-03-150x38.jpg 150w, https:\/\/kuvera.in\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/FD-Banner-01-03.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Why_should_you_link_your_Aadhar_and_PAN\"><\/span><b>Why should you link your Aadhar and PAN?<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h4>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Linking your Aadhar and PAN has been made mandatory by the IT departemnt for everyone because of three main reasons:<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Failure to link them means that no income tax refunds will be made against such PANs.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0Interest shall not be paid on refund for the period during which the PAN remains inoperative.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Also, tax deducted at source (TDS) and Tax collection at source (TCS) will be deducted at a higher rate.
