Gold funds delivered on their diversification benefit during the global financial crisis of 2008-2009. Since then the returns have been largely flat.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-3003 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.kuvera.in\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/GoldVsSensex.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"941\" height=\"596\" srcset=\"https:\/\/kuvera.in\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/GoldVsSensex.png 941w, https:\/\/kuvera.in\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/GoldVsSensex-300x190.png 300w, https:\/\/kuvera.in\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/GoldVsSensex-768x486.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 941px) 100vw, 941px\" \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On June 4th, <strong>DHFL missed its deadline to make a payment of Rs 1150 crore to its bondholders.<\/strong>\u00a0Mutual fund houses which had exposure to these papers marked down their investment in DHFL securities by 75%, with some AMCs (like <a href=\"https:\/\/kuvera.in\/explore\/funds\/uti\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">UTI<\/a>) making a full write-off. Most Fund houses\u00a0<\/span>have restricted fresh investment in schemes that were most impacted by the write-down, while others introducing exit load conditions where there were none earlier (E.g.: UTI) to safeguard investor interests.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In the first<strong> formal use of SEBI&#8217;s side-pocketing provision<\/strong>, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/kuvera.in\/explore\/funds\/tata\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Tata Mutual Fund<\/a> <\/strong>has announced the launch of segregated portfolios in a few schemes affected by DHFL default. The fund house intends to start side pocketing in 3 of its schemes (<a href=\"https:\/\/kuvera.in\/explore\/TATMHGZ-GR\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Tata Corporate Bond Fund<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/kuvera.in\/explore\/TAIAGZ-GR\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Tata Medium Term Fund<\/a> and Tata Treasury Advantage) from 14th June onward.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In line with market expectations, <strong>the RBI reduced the repo rate by 25 basis points<\/strong> from 6% to 5.75%.
