this route has limitations\u2014income is declared as a fixed percentage of turnover, and losses cannot be carried forward. most f&amp;o traders avoid it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>itr-1 and itr-2 cannot be used.<\/strong>&nbsp;since f&amp;o is classified as business income, these forms are not applicable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>filing deadlines:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>august 31 if no tax audit applies.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>october 31 if tax audit applies.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"how_f_o_turnover_is_calculated\"><\/span><strong>how f&amp;o turnover is calculated<\/strong><span sold.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>example:<\/strong><br>if a trader has \u20b98 lakh in profitable trades and \u20b96 lakh in losing trades, the turnover is \u20b914 lakh, not the net profit of \u20b92 lakh.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">the turnover figure determines:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>whether a tax audit is required<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>eligibility for presumptive taxation<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>the applicable itr filing deadline<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"tax_audit_applicability\"><\/span><strong>tax audit applicability<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">a tax audit is required under class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">for most retail f&amp;o traders, turnover stays below the audit threshold, and no audit is required. however, it is important to calculate turnover correctly before assuming this.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"f_o_losses_set-off_and_carry-forward\"><\/span><strong>f&amp;o losses: set-off and carry-forward<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>set-off in the same year:<\/strong><br>f&amp;o losses (non-speculative business losses) can be set off against income from any other head in the same financial year, except salary income.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>carry-forward to future years:<\/strong><br>if the loss cannot be fully absorbed, the unabsorbed amount can be carried forward for&nbsp;<strong>up to 8 assessment years<\/strong>. it can only be set off against business income in subsequent years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>critical rule:<\/strong>&nbsp;carry-forward is allowed only if the itr is filed on or before the due date.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"deductible_expenses_for_f_o_traders\"><\/span><strong>deductible expenses for f&amp;o traders<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">since f&amp;o trading is treated as a business, eligible expenses can be deducted from gross profits to reduce
