For someone with a monthly salary, the SIP date can be set a day or two after salary credit, ensuring sufficient balance and removing the need for manual intervention .

Monthly SIPs are available across nearly every mutual fund scheme and platform. More purchase points mean more opportunities to buy at lower NAVs.

An analysis of daily, weekly, and monthly SIPs across five equity fund categories large-cap, flexi-cap, mid-cap, multi-cap, and small-cap over periods ranging from one to 10 years found the return gap to be narrow. Of the platform’s 500,000-plus daily SIP investors, 77% come from tier-2 and tier-3 cities, and the average ticket size is ₹50. The company said the product found acceptance among merchants, shop owners, and self-employed individuals whose incomes are generated daily rather than monthly .

The psychology matters too. Committing ₹1,500 a month can feel like a large decision. Committing ₹50 a day feels smaller and easier to start. The low entry barrier encourages consistent participation .

the operational cost of daily investing

Daily SIPs create more transactions. A monthly SIP produces 12 entries a year per fund. The holding period for each instalment is counted from its own purchase date. With daily SIPs, determining which units qualify for long-term capital gains at the 12.5% rate versus short-term at 20% becomes an accounting exercise .

Missed instalments are easier to overlook. A single monthly debit is easy to verify. Does daily SIP give higher returns than monthly SIP?

Over long periods, the difference is negligible. An analysis across five equity fund categories and periods up to 10 years found a maximum return spread of 0.88 percentage points between daily, weekly, and monthly SIPs . For 10-year large-cap SIPs, the difference between daily and monthly was 0.02 percentage points .

2. What is the minimum amount for a daily SIP in India?

Platforms have lowered the entry point. PhonePe Wealth allows daily SIPs from ₹10 per day . Axis Mutual Fund’s Rozana SIP starts at ₹10 per scheme per day, with options to invest across up to 10 schemes . WhiteOak Mutual Fund requires a minimum of ₹100 per instalment for equity schemes on the BSE StAR MF platform .

3. Who should choose a daily SIP?

Investors with daily or irregular cash flows benefit most—freelancers, shop owners, merchants, and self-employed professionals. PhonePe’s data shows 77% of daily SIP investors come from tier-2 and tier-3 cities, with an average ticket size of ₹50 . The format also suits first-time investors who find a small daily commitment easier to start than a larger monthly one .

4. Is taxation different for daily SIP and monthly SIP?

The tax rules are the same, but daily SIPs create more work. Each instalment is treated as a separate investment for capital gains. A daily SIP generates roughly 250 purchase entries a year, compared to 12 for a monthly SIP. Tracking holding periods for long-term versus short-term capital gains becomes more complex .

5. Can I change my SIP frequency later?

It depends on the AMC and platform. Some allow frequency changes on existing SIPs; others require stopping the current SIP and registering a new one. The minimum instalment amounts and eligible dates vary by scheme and platform .

A daily SIP debits a fixed amount from the linked bank account on every business day.
