He ordered his men to leave him tied tightly to the mast, no matter how much he would beg. When he heard their beautiful song, he ordered the sailors to untie him but they bound him tighter. When they had passed out of earshot, Odysseus demonstrated with his frowns to be released.<\/em><\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The above is the first and probably the most beautiful example of pre-commitment and distinguishing signal from noise.<\/p>\n<p>A bull market creates many sirens. And we, my friend, are like Odysseus. Unless we create a plan and commit to it, come bad weather or good, we are highly likely to make a mistake that we will repent later.<\/p>\n<p>The three songs of the siren that you should be well aware of during a bull market are:<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h5><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"FOMO_-_Fear_Of_Missing_Out\"><\/span><strong>FOMO &#8211; Fear Of Missing Out<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h5>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-973 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.kuvera.in\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/Screen-Shot-2017-06-15-at-11.06.32-AM-300x156.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"269\" height=\"140\" srcset=\"https:\/\/kuvera.in\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/Screen-Shot-2017-06-15-at-11.06.32-AM-300x156.png 300w, https:\/\/kuvera.in\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/Screen-Shot-2017-06-15-at-11.06.32-AM.png 616w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 269px) 100vw, 269px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Just because the whole neighbourhood has doubled their money, is now the best time to increase your investment amount or risk allocation?<\/p>\n<p>Not really.<\/p>\n<p>Don&#8217;t get sucked in. Don&#8217;t increase your investment amounts just because everyone around is making money.\u00a0Similarly, don&#8217;t change your asset allocation to 100% in equity because suddenly everyone is saying &#8220;risk is good&#8221;. Stay steady, and keep re-balancing <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.kuvera.in\/005-dial-a-for-asset-allocation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">to your ideal asset allocation.<\/a><\/p>\n<h5><\/h5>\n<h5><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Book_some_profit\"><\/span><strong>Book some profit<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h5>\n<p>The market is making a new high, you should book some profit. Isn&#8217;t that the most counter-intuitive advice ever?<\/p>\n<p>Think about it. I don&#8217;t know of anyone who invests in the hope of never seeing a new market high. New market highs are how an investor makes money. What most retail investors get wrong is that they let their losers run in the hope of making back lost money and cut their winners with the intent of locking gains.<\/p>\n<p>Let the winner&#8217;s run, don&#8217;t book profits. Get the picture.<\/p>\n<p>Don&#8217;t sell today because someone tell you that in three months the market will be lower and you can buy back at a lower price. It will be true someday <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.kuvera.in\/sip-beats-trying-to-predict-market-bottoms\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">but mostly will cause you heartache in the process.<\/a><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>For the most part of a bull market, what you sell today you will scamper to buy at a higher price within a month.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Where does it leave us?<\/p>\n<p>Simple, have a plan and stick to it and don&#8217;t make decisions based on unsubstantiated or biased advice.
