All that you need to know about Mutual Funds this week

This is the 16th instance, since 1990, when NIFTY had eight consecutive down sessions. Sensex fell 3.85% and ended the week below the 38,000 level while Nifty dropped by 3.70% and closed below the 11,300 level.

Of the last 15 times when Nifty has had eight consecutive down days, the average return after 6 months has been 5.9%. The best outcome was when Nifty rallied 39.6% in 6 months after falling for 8 consecutive sessions in Nov-98. The worst was in Oct-94 when Nifty fell a further 25.9% in the next 6 months.

 

 

Gold funds outperformed this week, with all 5 of the top performing funds from the category of Fund of Funds (FoF) investing in Gold. Before you see this as a sign to rush into gold funds, do check out the longer term performance of gold.

The Assets Under Management (AUM) of the Indian Mutual fund industry rose to Rs 25.27 lakh crore in April, as per AMFI data. In comparison, the average AUM of the industry stood at Rs 23.25 lakh crore in the same month last year. Net inflows into equity mutual funds stood at Rs 4,609 crore in April down from Rs 11,756 crore in the previous month. However, the SIP book grew to an all-time high of Rs 8,238 crore in April.
