IRCTC runs a website called www.irctctourism.com that offers a wide range of services to the general public, including rail-based packages, hotels, and railroad retiring rooms, giving visitors a one-stop shop for all of their travel requirements.

Catering And Hospitality Business
One of the major hospitality and catering organisations in the nation, IRCTC operates a wide range of hospitality and culinary operations on board passenger trains, at railroad stations, on station property, and in connection with other ancillary enterprises. IRCTC oversees all of the Indian Railways’ onboard catering operations in more than 460 passenger trains with pantry cars, including the Rajdhani, Shatabdi, Duronto, Gatimaan Express, Mail/Express, and recently introduced Vande Bharat Express and Tejas Trains. The pantry cars in all of the aforementioned trains are where the onboard catering services are offered.
IRCTC also oversees contracts for train side vending (TSV) on Mail/Express and Superfast trains, which lack pantry coaches. The onboard sellers in train side vending accept orders from the customers using a given menu chart. The food is picked up by the vendors at the designated “meal pick-up places” in accordance with the prescribed order, and it is then given to the passengers.
IRCTC is redesigning the pantry carriages of trains with contemporary technology. The newly created pantry cars for the Rajdhani and Duronto Express will be fully air-conditioned LHB coaches outfitted with all contemporary kitchen appliances, including combi ovens, brat pans, deep fryers, etc. They will also have enough space for storing both dry goods and perishables, proper exhaust chimneys, suitable garbage bins, and housing for the kitchen staff.
In accordance with the Ministry of Railways’ 2017 Catering Policy, which aims to serve high-quality meals to passengers on trains, IRCTC has refurbished 46 kitchens with contemporary cooking apparatus. These kitchens are currently being connected to CCTV cameras for public live broadcasting. Additionally, the ability to scan QR codes on meal packets is being restored. In addition to this, IRCTC is in the process of placing food safety supervisors in these kitchens to guarantee the quality of food produced there.
IRCTC created the idea of the Executive Lounge to meet the needs of mid-segment and high-end customers for a comfortable area to rest at the railway stations with facilities to dine in a clean atmosphere. IRCTC has already established eight executive lounges based on the idea of airport lounges in the following railway stations: New Delhi (Paharganj Side & Ajmeri Gate Side), Agra Cantt, Jaipur, Ahmedabad, Madurai, Sealdah, and Varanasi. Other amenities, like reclining sofas, meals in buffet service, wi-fi internet services, shower facilities, and others, are offered to passengers at low costs in addition to the executive lounges’ spacious surroundings.
To expand the lodging options for travellers, IRCTC is rebuilding, running, and maintaining Railway Retiring Rooms at significant train stations across the nation. The IRCTC has already updated the retiring rooms at 19 railway stations and is currently commissioning additional retiring rooms to be used by travellers.
At the now, IRCTC is in charge of two BNR Hotels in Puri and Ranchi as well as two Rail Yatri Niwas at the railway terminals in New Delhi and Howrah.
The Company implemented new technology to allow customers to view the food being prepared in real-time in its base kitchens in an effort to standardise the passenger experience. Artificial intelligence has made it feasible to stream live from IRCTC’s base kitchens all around the nation. The IRCTC has started using high-definition CCTV cameras to oversee operations in its kitchens. In order to ensure the quality and hygiene of the food produced, the artificial intelligence-enabled system looks for irregularities in the kitchen activities during food manufacturing. The Internet Ticketing Center Building in New Delhi houses the IRCTC’s control rooms, which will be able to monitor the CCTV cameras linked to the kitchens that feed food to trains through the unbundling scheme.
The most recent expansion of IRCTC’s catering and hospitality operations is e-Catering, which allows the business to combine technology and cuisine. With the help of a smartphone application, customers can order food from participating restaurants and food outlets using this internet-based service while riding a train. The passengers’ seats or berths are where food is delivered. You can make reservations in advance.
The following are the key characteristics of E-Catering: Only travellers with reserved tickets may use this service:
- The online software offers a variety of delectable options for passengers to pick from.
